Best (actual) healdines of 2006

THE YEAR'S BEST (actual) HEADLINES OF 2006:

The year's gone by, but they are pretty neat, so...enjoy the unintentional humor! Reading humor in another language can be challenging as it often depends on play of words and muliple meanings.

  2. Teacher Venassa and classmates,

My fmily and I will go back Taiwan for two weeks because my father-in-law is diagnosed with terminal stage of lung cancer. It is maybe his the last Spring Festival. It is really sad. I will stay at their house to see if I can do anything for them. Hopefully my kids will remember the time they spend with their grandpa when they grow up. See you two weeks later.

  3. Teacher Vanessa,

Sorry for the typo. I know it is not polite to write people's name's incorrectly. I was too hurry to recheck the error. I am very sorry.

  4. Hello teacher Vanessa and everyone,

I'm not quite right understanding in the sense of humorous. For this posting I can get around 20% of them.
    for example :
Enfield ( London ) Couple Slain; Police Suspect Homicide
They may be on to something!

This one I don't know what Something would like to deal with.

ermm..I remember one story about joking when I was grade 5 ..

Teacher ask: what is your name ?
    Student reply: Ztefan..
Teacher ask : Can you spell it.
    student answer: I-T ... it

anyway, thank you Vanessa to give us the links I gonna check it out.

I am sorry to hear about your father. You go with our best wishes and hopes. Your family will be in our thoughts. If you get a chance, check in and let us know how you are doing.

    Take care of yourself.

I am not sure I understand your question - or even if it is a question!

Are you having a problem understanding the humor in this headline?

    "Couple Slain; Police Suspect Homicide
They may be on to something!"

The humor is because the headline makes a statement that is too obvious - not necessary. If someone is slain (killed), then of course it is homicide. There is no need to "suspect" it.

The comment, "They may be on to something," is irony.

And stop using "gonna"! It maybe OK in informal chat and IM use but not here because it's NOT a word.
