| Here's today's writing tip! | | Direct personal experience = flowing vocabulary. A common occurrence in freewriting is for the student to hover over the page, writing about generalizations (talking about gymnastics or video games in general, to no one). To help engage more deeply, suggest your child "drop down" or "sink into" the lived experiences he or she has had in those arenas. Retell ONE swim meet experience or describe the thrill of beating a specific level in a specific game. When a child accesses direct personal experience, the vocabulary flows and there's less chance of feeling disconnected to the writing. |
